Closing the Gaps Description: A Historic First

Mickey Ibarra & Associates crafted the very first effort between the National Education Association the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the National Black Caucus of State Legislatures (NBCSL) and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislatures (NHCSL) to produce a detailed policy analysis called Closing the Achievement Gaps.

As a result of this ground breaking partnership spearheaded by Mickey Ibarra & Associates, Closing the Achievement Gaps became a national campaign in Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, Ohio and Texas intended to help shape the state education agenda and create support for legislative initiatives through broad-based coalitions in support of public schools.

Mickey Ibarra & Associates served as project manager coordinating the overall effort. The firm delivered an Action Guide to assist legislators in creating statewide campaign plans.
